With rapid economic growth on the western coast of the Taiwan Strait and imminent opening of direct shipping across the Taiwan Strait, the scale of the Port of Xiamen has been expanding steadily, yet the ship repairing and building capacity on China’s southeastern coast can barely keep up with the pace of development. In a bide to boost the industrial chain, UOE is seeking to build a large-scaled ship repairing and building yard in Zhangzhou Development Zone, which will put an end to the lack of a large-scaled ship repairing and building facility on China’s southeastern coast.
Upon its completion, the shipyard will be able to repair vessels of 70,000 tonnes and to build vessels and ocean petroleum steel structures of more than 10,000 tonnes. It will boost ship repairing and building capacity in South Fujian, stimulate the development of shipping and other related industries, increase job opportunities and local public financial revenues, and generate continuous socioeconomic benefits.
